Our country was built upon the principles of Unity in Diversity. Pt Nehru said that the Indian
The country watches as it chews its fingernails in its teeth, the deadlock in J&K where certain extremists launch tirades against the Indian government and burn the beautiful Kashmir valley to cinders. And they say that they are doing it for the love of their land. The same thing is happening in Maharashtra where the idea of “immigrants” from the North taking away the jobs of Mumbaikars is driving an Indian to kill another fellow Indian. All this after listening to "inspiring words" of a "great visionary."
After a spate of bomb blasts in major cities by Muslim militant groups, a blast was masterminded by a hardcore Hindu, and this started off allegations against the opposition being a Hindu "jihadist" organisation. That is all this entire scenario has boiled down into, volatile situations with disaster definitely in the trumps. And when disaster strikes some political honcho steps up and says he/she condemns the attacks. The blame games then start, citing lack of proper security by the local administration and the inability of governance by the ruling party. Who do they think they are fooling??
No solution seems to be seen to all the hypocrisy that exists. We need to rise and start calling the politicians' bluffs. Awareness has to spread among the uneducated masses that fanaticism would only lead to the destruction of what they hold dear. We should also realise that setting off bombs because hardliners of another community did so is not a natural reaction to their actions. Ultimately the innocents are the ones who suffer the most.
Its one thing to be proud of who you are, but its not right to stake claim to your territory and
say that everybody else is an intruder and should prosecuted by self-made laws for trespassing. We should remember that we are all Indians first and then are the citizens of the state that we belong

soda, i completely agree that fanaticism is not the answer. you also talk about educating the masses, but how do you react when one of the leading universities in india, defends perpetrators of terror? (aligarh, in this case). one incident of bombing by hindu extremists, makes all the pseudo secularists very happy, now they have an argument when people generalize one community as terrorists. At a time when all of us have become immune to it, your post will spark debate in our circle.
ya its sad...especially UPA who have waiting with bated breath for something like this to happen cos they need not pin crimes on minorities anymore :(
Agree with every word!
Its extremely frustrating to have to watch Political teams demand resignations from the ones in power, when blasts and such occur. Like the actual tragedies aren't bad enough,we have to watch our country being run by people who seem to consider this to be some kind of a reality TV show.
Blasts to kill people, blasts to only instill fear, bringing mosques-temples-churches down, some people really have damaged circuits in their brains.
And we do/can do very little about it,sadly.
Nice post, sir.Like Padma said, something we can all talk about. :)
I agree with you Soda, nice post.
This is about the time when things like this begin to trouble you. When you question political actions and motives. Nice place to be :)
Im looking forward to a few good debates now. :)
Words like Our state, Our language, Our streets, Our homeland etc etc make me nauseaic these days. A sense of belonging is very different. Something very personal about which the whole world needn't know. Silently expressing your love towards it would be a more dignified and meaningful way. So its high time people realize it and stop screaming their throats out.
Well written soda! Your writing matures by every article I read. Good work :)
I think it finally boils down to vote-bank politics. Stimulate one community against the other just to hold on to power. We need to get our priorities right and decide if we want to create internal tension or if we want to fight the external terrorism.
Aren't the internal tensions sparked by external organizations in order to collapse the internal backbone? :(
